Overview

The area is a largely residential and civil parish in the Borough of Eastleigh. The population is around 21,436. It lies on the old Winchester to Southampton road, 7 miles south west of Winchester and 5 miles north east of Southampton.

The ‘Ford’ is thought to refer either to the ford of Monks Brook on the Hursley Road or on the Winchester to Southampton road. Chandlers Ford was named in a 2012 National Study as one of the best places in England and Wales to bring up a family due to quality of schools, childcare provision, affordability of living and crime levels. There is also a vast amount of parks, green spaces and leisure centres.

Residential Areas

The town offers a wide selection of residential properties ranging from new build modern homes in areas such as Knightwood to characteristic family residence set within quiet positions. There is also local council housing in Velmore.

Chandlers Ford offers a few shopping precincts, such as Fryern Hill. Here you’ll find beauty salons, opticians, Boots, Chemist and a Waitrose. There is also a central precinct with an HSBC bank, Flower shop and many take away restaurants.

Nightlife

Chandlers Ford has a huge range of restaurants and take-away’s to satisfy every customer. Although there isn’t any nightlife in Chandlers Ford, there is a wide selection of pubs, all with great atmosphere and close to bus/train routes to Eastleigh, Southampton and Winchester running until late.

Local Schools

Chandlers ford is home to a high standard of secondary schools including Thornden School, a mixed comprehensive school with an outstanding record of examination success.  Other secondary schools include Toynbee and Lakeside School.  It also is home to many day nurseries, infant and primary schools, including the outstanding independent school Sherborne House.

Transport

Chandlers ford is served by Chandlers Ford Railway Station with links between Romsey and Salisbury via Southampton. It’s only a maximum 3 mile journey to ‘Southampton Airport Parkway’ which also offers all major rail links. A network of regular bus routes connects all parts of the Borough to Southampton, Eastleigh and other major destinations in the area. The ‘Bluestar 1’ bus runs directly from Winchester to Southampton. Chandlers Ford also has easy access to the motorways such as the M3 and M27.
